A NEW steel and construction company in Whaplode has made a steady start.
Green Steel and Cladding Ltd has been started up by two former directors and the contracts manager of Whaplode firm DA Green and Sons Ltd, which went into administration last October with the loss of 98 jobs.
Director David Green, accounts manager Paul Coote and contracts manager Paul Gaines, who have more than 100 years’ experience in construction between them, are currently operating the new business from their homes, but are hoping to grow and eventually find office premises.
Mr Green said: “We started the business in December and it’s going steady so far.
“We are making progress but it’s all dependent on the recession.
“I would say our progress is satisfactory and we are already employing about a dozen local sub-contractors and are working on a number of local sites.”
The company offers a range of services, including steel-framed buildings, mezzanine floors, walkways, stairs and metalwork, steelwork alterations, beams, lintels, bollards, single skin or composite cladding, rooflights, and sliding or up and over doors.
Mr Green added: “We would like to thank local suppliers and subcontractors for their support with the new company and we look forward to a brighter, more sustainable future.
“We have already received a lot of positive feedback from people who are pleased to see us up and running.”
