A Market Deeping jeweller is proving football legend Sir Matt Busby right when he said “if you’re good enough, you’re old enough”.
Molly Clegg (20) is in her second year as owner of Murano Silver in Market Place and is making plans to launch a website for her business in the next few months.
“I was working here on a Saturday when I was a sixth-former at The Deepings School,” Molly said.
“When I finished sixth-form, I approached the shop owner and she would consider selling the business to me.
“I ended up buying the shop and it’s been going as well as I hoped it would.”
Customers from Market Deeping, Spalding and Stamford joined Molly for a first anniversary celebration on November 1 as a reward for their loyal service.
Molly said: “I’d always thought about having my own business but never thought it would be achievable.
“I didn’t realise what I was taking until I bought the shop, but my parents believed in me, even though they knew at the time that there was no guarantee it would work.
“I probably would have gone for it on my own in any case and everybody has been really supportive as I was here already, working on Saturdays.”
Since taking over the shop in September 2013, Molly has added to its existing range of bracelets, necklaces and earrings by also stocking costume jewellery.
“It’s been a massive learning curve but after guessing my way through the first year, I feel like I know what I’m doing now,” Molly said.
“I hope to keep growing the business and the project in the new year is to launch a website.
“At some point, I also hope to open another shop but it’s very early days.”
