ONE of Spalding’s businessmen has been doing his bit to tidy up the town.

Philip Hall, who runs Turner’s Fish Restaurant in New Road, grabbed his bucket and brush and headed around the corner to Market Place to give the former Currys building a spring clean.

Despite it leaving passers-by wondering whether he was taking it on as a new venture, Mr Hall says he simply wanted to tidy up the front of the empty building.

He said: “While we were litter picking last year my wife Julie and I saw it had got a bit dusty. It wasn’t on the agenda but we thought it would look better if it was done. This time I was in town and looked at the shop front and thought it was such a shame that it looked a little unkempt. It’s such a nice shop front I thought I would clean it up.”

Mr Hall said he had plenty of comments about how tidy it was looking as he worked.

He added: “People said it was nice to see someone caring and doing something which had no direct benefit for themselves.”
