Hard work in an unfamiliar trade is paying off for Sue Stubley, owner of Occasions Jewellers in Spalding.

The specialist in hand-made and custom-made bracelets, necklaces and other valuables celebrated its eighth year of trading with customers, fellow traders and friends.

South Holland and the Deepings MP John Hayes also joined in the anniversary party and helped cut a specially-made cake marking Sue’s efforts at the shop in Bridge Street.

Sue said: “Both my mnother and loved jewellery when I was a youngster.

“After my mother died, I went to college to do silversmith and goldsmith courses so I could start making jewellery myself.

“I went on to organise parties and antique collectors fairs before I decided to open my jewellery shop, having no experience in the retail business and knowing nothing about it.

In the future, Sue hopes to add an engraving service to the business, as well as jewellery from several new manufacturers.

“It’s my individuality that has kept me going and I’ve worked really hard to get where I am now,” Sue said.
