Children of all ages – and adults – can enjoy getting crafty and messy play at a new arts and craft shop which has opened in Long Sutton.

The brainchild of friends Denise Crowley and Yvonne Bingham, Ark Kidz offers bespoke and personalised gifts, artwork and cards for all occasions as well as a friendly and fun creative work area to inspire all ages and abilities.

The shop, which held its official launch at the weekend, is the latest business to open in the Hoddins Way eco-development in Gedney Road.

Denise and Yvonne, of Fleet and Fleet Hargate, who both run their own craft business, decided to join forces after chatting recently.

As well as crafty drop-in sessions the pair will also offer children’s craft parties, workshops for older children and adults, baby showers, bridal and hen parties and sessions for people to make their own wedding decorations.

Denise said: “I’ve done some children’s craft parties before and really enjoyed it.

“I’m also a higher level teaching assistant too and I missed working with children.

“I was chatting to Yvonne about it all, and the next day she found this place for rent – everything’s sort of fallen into place for us – it’s very exciting.”

Crafts on offer in the create, make and take drop-in sessions include painting MDF items which are individually priced, collage, decoupage, rag wreaths, button art and creating from recyclable materials.

“A lot of parents have said to me previously they like to do crafts with their children, but they don’t like all the mess that comes with it – so that’s where we come in.

She added: “We want to encourage parents to interact with their children, but at the same time we want the sessions to be child-led, so they can come and tell us what they want to make and do.”

“We had a great launch day on Saturday – so many people came along to support us, in fact there was easily over 100, which was beyond our wildest expectations.

“We were really overwhelmed – but in a good way! And there was lots of positive feedback which was great – we’re looking forward to welcoming them all back again soon.”

National and local crafters will also be displaying their products at Ark Kidz – which stands for All Round Krafts & Kreative Imps Design Zone.

Drop-in sessions start from £3 with discounts for siblings.
