The manager of an award-winning Market Deeping chip shop has been rewarded for its fantastic fries with a three-day fact-finding trip to Norway.
Gerry McCann, manager of The Boundary Fish and Chips on HIgh Street, was treated to a tour of Norwegian liner Atlantic, witnessed the Scandinavian country’s cod fishing process and was taken round a fishing production plant.
The Boundary was named the best chip in eastern England by judges of the 2014 National Fish and Chip Awards, one of ten candidates for the honour of being the UK’s best fry-up to be decided in London on January 22 2014.
It reached the final ten after a rigorous judging process that included unannounced visits by assessors measuring the shop’s product quality, food prepapration procedures, customer service and staff development.
Gerry said: “The trip to Norway was great but the best part for me was getting out on the boat and seeing the fish caught and processed.
“Customers regularly ask us about sustainability and now I can tell them with confidence that I know exactly where the fish is coming from because I’ve seen it sourced responsibly.”
