The drinks are flowing at the Horseshoe pub, Thurlby, where regulars and staff are celebrating its newly-earned title of Best Community Food Pub in southern England.
Co-licensees David Rathnell, Darren Robinson and Adam Weeks, along with their staff, have been rewarded for their mouth-watering menu of meals with the award presented by Marston’s Inn and Taverns.
Judges were wowed by dishes such as filo king prawns, salmon tagliatelle and mushroom stroganoff which the Horseshoe will now take forward to the next stage of judging for a place in the grand final in June.
Adam said: “We’re really pleased that all the hard work has paid off and it’s nice to have that recognition and extra validation for what we’re doing.
“We’ve been runners-up in different categories twice before, so it’s great to have actually won this time.
“The staff are thrilled and the regulars are really, really pleased that we’ve won the award.”
Adam, David and Darren have been running the Horseshoe since 2004 and they take pride in maintaining high standards of food and service in a welcoming atmosphere.
“The judges were obviously impressed with the quality and variety of our food, along with the high standards of our service,” Adam said.
“We try and do everything really well without doing anything fancy, delivering good customer service and lovely food in a timely manner, getting all the basics right.
“There have been lots of ups and downs over the last ten years, but we’re definitely on an up at the moment and we’re keen to continue pushing the values of good quality food and great service in a really good atmosphere as far as we can.
Ben Robinson, regional manager of Marston’s Inns and Taverns, said: “With about 300 other pubs in the area, the Horseshoe has done very well to finish top and it’s a fantastic achievement for Adam and his team.”
