Sam’s a third generation landlord

Pulling pints runs in the genes in Sam Richardson’s family as he’s a third generation landlord behind a bar in Holbeach.

Sam (27) has taken over the String of Horses in Boston Road, carrying on a tradition started by his grandfather Roly Richardson, who had the Red Lion, and his father, Keith Richardson, who had pubs including The Exchange.

Sam has a collection of memorabilia from the family’s former pubs and is pictured with some of Roly’s beer mats and the Richardson family crest.

He said: “My collection is made up over the 60 and 70 years – there’s lots of generational stuff.”

Sam has put a new twist on his pub – changing its name to The Cask in Hand at the String of Horses – and said: “We serve cask ale directly from the barrel.”

Sadly Roly died a couple of years ago, but Keith is “exceptionally pleased” Sam has his own pub. SG070214-126TW
