McDonald’s Restaurant on the A17 at Long Sutton has failed in its bid to serve Big Macs round the clock, seven days a week, on a permanent basis.

The restaurant sought to remove an hours’ restriction in its planning permission, but South Holland’s planning committee granted only a year-long consent for 24/7 opening – as it has previously.

Planning committee members heard McDonald’s had only opened for 24 hours at weekends – despite having approval seven days a week – and that meant the impact on residents could not be properly assessed by the council.

Committee chairman Roger Gambba-Jones said a permanent consent will not be granted until the company actually opens seven days a week to test the waters and allow the council to assess any levels of disturbance to residents.

Coun Gambba-Jone said: “They need to demonstrate that our concerns aren’t justified before they get their planning permission.”
