Takeaways from a Bourne fish and chip shop have an extra taste after it reached the regional finals of the industry’s Oscars.

George’s Fish Bar in Cherry Holt Road is one of 60 UK chippies in the race to become Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year.

Run by owner George Georgio for the past 13 years, George’s was judged one of the top six chip shops in eastern England and the next target is to be named in the top ten to be announced in October.

George said: “I’m very pleased we were shortlisted as this is the first we’ve entered the awards.

“I’m confident we can win the regional title and I want to win the national title because I only enter things if I can win them.

“We serve about 90 per cent of the Bourne fish and chip market and we have over 3,000 customers a week.

“There are 18 staff, part-time and full-time, but the reason we’re so popular is because we’re the only fish and chip shop I know that uses fresh, rather than, frozen fish.

“My enjoyment is serving food that’s absolutely perfect and we always give the best to our customers.”
