Members of the newly-formed Spalding Town Retailers’ Association were in sparkling form when they decided the date for this year’s Christmas lights switch-on.
Paul Bryan, of Sainsbury’s, has offered to “head up” events and chaired the discussion on proposed events.
The switch-on will take place on Friday, November 28 – a decision made in preference to the past two years’ events held on a Saturday and Sunday.
Members are forming a sub-group to make plans and anyone interested is asked to contact Paul.
Retailers are considering wearing fancy dress to add to the atmosphere and create fun for shoppers.
Other events discussed included the Pumpkin Parade, to be held on October 3, and the Poppy Appeal.
There was also a discussion on how retailers could take part in this year’s Children In Need appeal in November, with Pudsey the bear being photographed in all participating stores.
Spalding can expect to see more proactive retailers in the coming weeks. Chairman Gavin Allmand said: “Without a town centre manager in situ, we are left with having to do this ourselves or risk nothing happening.”
The search for a town centre manager failed to produce a suitable candidate after two advertising campaigns.
