A South Holland agricultural firm is hoping the grass is greener a few miles down the road when it officially opens its new base this weekend.
Family-run Chandlers (Farm Equipment) Ltd is celebrating its move from Boston Road, Holbeach, to High Road, Whaplode, with a three-day event, including a visit by children’s TV character Tractor Ted.
Chandlers, which started out as an ironmongery in Grantham almost 80 years ago, has become one of the largest suppliers of farm machinery, vehicles, parts and country store products in the UK.
The firm opened an agricultural depot in Holbeach in December 2001 but have now converted a 20,000 square foot warehouse in Whaplode from where it will sell items, including Massey Ferguson tractors, gardening tools and industrial clothing, as well as dog and cat food.
Gavin Pell, agricultural sales manager, said: ”We’ve been looking for an opportunity to move to a more purpose-built premises because the modern machinery we sell has grown in size.
“We’ve outgrown our base in Holbeach and the new facilities in Whaplode allow us to operate a lot more efficiently and improve the service we offer to our customers.
Whaplode is one of Chandler’s six depots in Lincolnshire and Leicestershire and the opening event is on Thursday and Friday, from 10am until 5pm both days.
There is also a family fun day on Saturday between 10am and 4pm with Tractor Ted, bouncy castle, competitions and mini farm.
