A Spalding gym has opened a women’s only room to encourage more of the fair sex to work out.

Pro-Bodies boss Pete Lindsay says the Ladies’ Only Gym is a big hit with the existing membership – and more women are signing up.

He said his High Street gym is a relaxed and friendly place, but some women are figure conscious and worry about being overweight while exercising alongside men.

Mr Lindsay said: “We did 18 extra registrations within a fortnight of opening the new room.”

At 75 Connie Cronin is the oldest woman member at Pro-Bodies

Connie, who lives in Spalding, said: “I think the women’s only gym is a good idea.

“If there are some women who prefer to work out with women then fine, but it doesn’t particularly bother me.”

Connie joined a few years ago when her husband, Clive, became ill and they had to give up walking to keep fit.

She usually goes three times a week at breakfast time and works out on equipment including a hip abductor, cross trainer, treadmill and bicycle.

Connie also uses weights to tone.

She said:”Pro-Bodies was recommended to me by friends and I have been going ever since. I just wanted to keep fit because I think people of my age can get stale very quickly.”
