More people are back in work
Unemployment in South Holland has fallen by nearly 300 on figures released a year ago.
The district remains the leader in the job market across the East Midlands, according to the latest details released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
In December last year, figures showed 1,395 (2.6 per cent) were unemployed in South Holland, compared to 3.5 per cent in the East Midlands and 3.7 per cent in Great Britain.
A year ago there were 1,690 (3.1 per cent) unemployed in South Holland, compared with 3.9 per cent in the East Midlands and four per cent in the UK.
Figures for the region, an area that includes parts of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, showed a sharp rise in unemployment of 10,000 (0.4 per cent) to 190,000 (8.2 per cent). Employment fell by 3,000 (0.5 per cent).
Quarterly labour market figures also showed a slight increase in unemployment in North East Lincolnshire.
The total claimant count for jobseekers’ allowance in December 2012 was 6,295, an increase on November’s figure of 6,120.
