June closure for bank branch

Holbeach has suffered a blow this week after news that a high street bank is pulling out of the town this summer.

NatWest confirmed on Tuesday that its West End branch will close on June 19 because of a “sharp decrease in demand.”

A bank spokesman said: “ We have taken the difficult decision to close our Holbeach branch as we have seen a sharp decrease in demand.

“We have advised staff and are helping our customers to make alternative arrangements.”

Dave Hudson, chairman of Holbeach Business Forum, said: “I was aware of the closure and saddened by it because it will mean another empty premises in Holbeach town centre.

“But I prefer to remain optimistic and see it as an opportunity for a new business looking for an office or retail unit to move into the town.”
