DGM Properties is cream of the crop
The top businesses across South Holland got their richly deserved rewards at the first ever Lincolnshire Free Press Business Awards.
More than 20 businesses and sponsors attended the glittering gala evening.
Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian editor Nick Woodhead said it was about recognising and rewarding the cream of the crop from an area which had a proud history in pioneering excellence.
He said: "The competition itself was brilliantly supported and the number of entries and the standard was staggering. Everyone is a winner just by being here and making the final."
Eighty six companies from across the district took part and more than 130 entries were received in the seven categories:
Business Start-Up
Growing Business
Customer Care
Best Use of Technology
Good Taste
Business Person of the Year and
Business of the Year.
The coveted Business of the Year award, sponsored by NatWest, was taken by Spalding company DGM Properties.
Nick thanked Steve Stafford, from NatWest, who provided the driving force in recruiting the sponsors, including South Holland District Council, Roythornes, Brown and Co, Business Link, Lincolnshire Free Press and Duncan and Toplis.
He said: "The sponsors put their hands in their pockets and their noses to the grindstone to get the show on the road."
In addition to the six awards which were judged by the sponsors of each category, the Good Taste award saw a fantastic response from Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian readers.
The winner was decided by readers casting more than 2,000 votes for their favourite place to eat.
The top three then went into a final to be judged by John Norman, of Caterwell.
