Former world heavyweight champion David Haye has been booked as special guest at Spalding and District Round Table’s boxing event next year.
Confirmation of the British boxer’s appearance has led to a surge in ticket sales for the all-male black-tie annual event at Springfields Conference Centre, Spalding, on Saturday, February 20.
Ringside tables cost £1,000 for 12 people and standard tables £850. The price includes several bouts between police and army boxing teams, a three-course meal and wine.
Larger and smaller tables can be accommodated, as well as individual tickets. For tickets call Tom Bradshaw on 07884 180106.
The fundraiser has been established for more than 20 years and Haye follows other top names from the sport including Frank Bruno, Barry McGuigan and Sir Henry Cooper.
The event regularly raises more than £10,000 which is used for local good causes.
Haye (34) retired from boxing in 2012 but has recently confirmed he intends to follow in the footsteps of Muhammad Ali, Wladimir Klitschko and George Foreman in coming out of retirement to reclaim the sport’s top title.
He managed to unify all the belts at cruiserweight level but won only the WBA title as a heavyweight and now wants to come back and unify that division too.
Dutring his impressive career, Haye won 26 out of 28 professional fights, his last victory coming in his final appearance, against Dereck Chisora at West Ham’s Upton Park on July 14, 2012.
