The Spalding bookshop has chosen Still Alice, by Lisa Genova, as its book of the week.

Still Alice is a moving story which has now been made into an Oscar-winning film starring Julianne Moore and Kristen Stewart.

Alice is just 50 when she finds herself in a downward spiral, increasingly disorientated and forgetful.

A university professor, wife and mother of three, she has books to write, places to see, grandchildren to meet.

But now a tragic diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease is set to change her life – and her relationship with her family and the world – forever.

Unable to care for herself, Alice struggles to find meaning and purpose as her concept of self gradually slips away. But Alice is a remarkable woman and her family learn more about her and each other in their quest to hang on to the Alice they know. Her memory hanging by a frayed thread, she is living in the moment, living for each day. But she is still Alice.

At Bookmark Still Alice sells at the special price of £5.99 (RRP £7.99) but there’s an extra 20 per cent off with the voucher contained in the Spalding Guardian of March 5.
