The body of an elderly man was found in the River Welland at Deeping St James this morning.
Harry Leng (80) was reported missing by his wife in the early hours and his body was discovered by a friend of the family at 7.25am.
It was in the river near the junction of Church Street and Hereward Way. Church Street was cordoned off and diversions were put in place while a police underwater search unit recovered the body.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Deeping St James parish councillor Gerd Lindfors-Windsor, who lives on Hereward Way, said: "It's shocking but we don't really know anything about what has happened. We are most sad and distressed that something as terrible as this could happen in Deeping St James."
