A blue plaque may go on the front of Spalding’s Red Lion Hotel to commemorate guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, who stayed there in May 1967.
Hendrix played at the renowned Barbecue 67 concert in the Tulip Bulb Auction Hall and was on the bill with Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton’s Cream and Geno Washington and his Ram Jam Band.
Red Lion Hotel manager Nigel Wilkins remembers Hendrix tying his bed sheets together and dangling them from the hotel window in an attempt to lure female fans up to his room.
Nigel is now seeking planning permission for the plaque.
He said: “I was approached by the local representative of the civic society, who said would it be something I would be interested in doing and I said absolutely.”
