GENEROUS birthday girl Maria Walsh has handed over £200 to charity after asking for donations instead of gifts at her party.

Maria, who lives in Mencap-supported housing in Bourne, collected the money for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Maria had been celebrating her 60th birthday with family and friends at the Wishing Well in Dyke.

She presented the cash to volunteer Barbara Key at the Bourne branch of the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society.

Her sister Helene Currell said Maria wanted to support a local charity: “Maria, who has a learning disability, wanted family and friends to donate money instead of giving her a birthday present at her party. Thanks to everyone who made a donation.”
