Supporters and staff of a Spalding care home are putting their feet forward to help residents and a charity close to their hearts.

More than 20 people will be doing a 13-mile walk from Southernwood House Care Home, Spalding, to Chevington House, Bourne, on Saturday, October 5 in the hope of raising up to £400, half of which will go to the Alzheimer’s Society.

The other half will go to a residents’ comfort fund at Southernwood House to pay for musical entertainment, theatre shows and other outings.

Anya Woolsey, deputy manager, said: “We like to get the residents involved in everything we do and the sponsored walk came about after talking to some of the residents and their families about what we could do as a home.

“The Alzheimer’s Society is an extremely big part of the residents’ lives because some of them have dementia, while others have husbands and wives who suffer from it.”

Both care homes are part of West Midlands-based Wellbeing Care Group and several of the firm’s directors are planning to join staff and supporters on the walk.

Anya said: “Our residents think it’s a lovely idea and they are very keen for us to do it because it means they can go on more outings.”

To sponsor the walk, call Anya at Southernwood House on 01775 760563.
