The Hobbit hits our screens

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY (12A): After the success of The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson is back with a new trilogy based on The Hobbit.

In these prequels Martin Freeman headlines as young Bilbo Baggins as he joins a band of dwarves on a treacherous journey to the Lonely Mountain to reclaim a lost kingdom conquered by the dragon Smaug.

Some familiar faces will be returning with Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Elrond (Hugo Weaving), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett), Saruman (Christopher Lee) – and of course Andy Serkis’ Gollum. Older Bilbo (Holm) and Frodo (Elijah Wood) reportedly make cameos. Some familiar British faces like Benedict Cumberbatch, Billy Connolly and Richard Armitage are also on hand.
