A TOURING car fan who works in Whaplode Drove got the dream chance to join the winners on the podium at Rockingham racing circuit at the weekend.

Luke Parlett, a technician at Chevrolet specialists WH Brand, was selected by the manufacturer as one of just five ‘top technicians’ across the UK who got the chance to help championship-winning RML team prepare its Chevrolet Cruze at the British Touring Car Championships.

In qualifying RML driver Jason Plato secured pole position with the fastest lap and went on to win the first race on Sunday.

Luke was selected to go on to the podium with the top three finishing drivers from the race to collect the manufacturer’s trophy on behalf of the RML Chevrolet team.

He said: “To be a part of the team on Saturday to help work on Jason’s car for qualifying was a dream come true, but to then be able to collect the manufacturer’s trophy on the podium for the team was a once in a lifetime experience.

“I’m a huge BTCC fan so just to be invited to get involved with the team was fantastic, but Jason getting the pole position and then winning the race was the icing on the cake to an amazing weekend that I’ll never forget.”
