Classic car enthusiasts had a charity big day out in memory of the man who organised the event for many years before he died in December.
Fifty-six vehicles turned out for the Spalding and East Elloe Classic Car Club charity ride, which started at the Four Seasons Garden Centre in Sleaford, stopping at the Belton Woods Hotel for lunch and finishing at Grimsthorpe Castle. Joy Mann, who is secretary of the classic car club, said: “We hold a big day out every year, but this time we held it in memory of Alan Lyon, who died of cancer in the Sue Ryder hospice at Thorpe Hall.
“Alan had organised this event for many years so it seemed right to hold it in his memory.”
Members met at The Goat in Frognall to present a cheque for £1,500 to the Sue Ryder charity.
Mrs Mann said: “We were delighted to raise this amount.
“People were very generous and it’s nice when you know that what you do will make a difference.”
The classic car club has 148 members, with some owning more than one vehicle.
They hold a number of events throughout the year.
