A BOURNE couple enjoyed an unforgettable Christmas Day – their baby girl was born.
Katie Clarke (19) was due to give birth on Boxing Day, but baby Hailey arrived a day early, bringing festive joy to her mum and dad Martin Ackroyd.
Care assistant Katie, of St Paul’s Gardens, said: “Hailey is the best Christmas present.
“She is an excellent baby. She was due on Boxing Day but was a day early which I’m pleased about.
Katie was supported during the birth by her mum Claire, of Doctors Lane, Rippingale.
Staff had to help Katie, an asthma sufferer, after she nearly collapsed due to an air bubble outside of her lung.
Mother and baby were kept in hospital until Tuesday on observation but both are now at home and are flourishing.
Katie said: “Martin is absolutely thrilled. My family are over the moon too.”
Katie was woken by her contractions at 8am on Christmas Eve. She waited until later that night to go to Peterborough City Hospital but the couple were sent back home as Katie was in the early stages of labour.
But as the contractions became worse Katie and 23-year-old Martin returned to the hospital at 9.30am on Christmas morning, and Hailey was born, weighing 6lb 9oz, later that day.
Hailey shares her middle name with her mum and Rose is a family name in Martin’s family.
