There will be a beautiful, weather-proof poppy wreath placed on Long Sutton war memorial this Remembrance Sunday after a community arts event in the town.

Mixed media artist Lesley Gott led a workshop at Silverwood Garden Centre which saw two fabric-sculpted wreaths made using a new waterproof liquid medium.

Long Sutton British Legion members made donations to make the two wreaths, one of which will go on the memorial. The session raised over £150 for the Legion, with special sessions also being held for children.

Also helping out was Diana Walker of the War Widows Association.

A giant poppy made by Lesley was also raffled on the day, and more money was raised for the legion by the sale of smaller brooch poppies.

“It was lovely to see everyone come together for a community project like this,” Lesley told the Guardian.
