THE aptly named Barbara Peacock dug deep into her own purse to help her feathered friends at The Exotic Pet Refuge in Deeping St James.
Mrs Peacock goes fundraising every weekend for the refuge with its resident “owl man” Sandy Fox and together they collect thousands by taking owls out to garden centres, shops and fairs.
But now she’s donated £2,000 of her own money to help the centre’s £4,000 appeal to build ten new enclosures for its larger owls.
Refuge founder Pam Mansfield said the centre exists entirely on donations and she is so grateful to Barbara for her generous gift and her year-round fundraising with Sandy.
She said: “They are an absolute godsend. They raised £14,500 last year, which is a lot of money, and they were out every weekend.
“Barbara is a lovely lady and I love her to bits. She is part of the family.”
The refuge has 30 owls, including Bengal Eagle Owls, Snowy Owls, Wood Owls and Asian Spotted Owls.
