VISITORS are being encouraged to go and enjoy the great outdoors in Gedney.
A wildflower meadow, nature walkways, bird boxes and a picnic area have been officially unveiled at the Queen Mother Memorial Park Nature Reserve.
The former football field in Lowgate was opened in a ceremony with volunteers and guests on Friday.
Pupils from Lutton and Gedney Church End primary schools had the chance to help the reserve grow by running through the meadow scattering handfuls of wildflower seeds.
It has taken volunteers about two years to get the project ready. Work began after football teams using the field disbanded and vandals repeatedly attacked the changing rooms and toilets.
It is being managed under the guidance of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.
