POLICE were called after a teenager was spotted with a weapon outside school gates.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and threatening behaviour close to the University Academy Holbeach on Thursday morning after a student reported seeing him with a knife.
He has now been bailed until May 30 while investigations into the incident continue.
Sgt Stuart Hurst, of Spalding Police, said: “There is no evidence that suggests the weapon was taken on to school premises and no one should fear that the school has any problem of that nature.
“It appears this boy, who had previously been excluded, may have had a grievance with another student and had gone to the school shouting the odds.
“Police officers attended the school and the boy was arrested on a footpath close to the A17. He is now on bail while we work with other agencies and support the family to resolve this matter.”
School headteacher Steve Baragwanath said staff called police after a student reported seeing the boy with the weapon.
He said: “The police reacted very swiftly to our call and dealt with the matter very quickly and efficiently.
“The weapon was never on school premises and it was all over very quickly.”
