GUARDIAN ANGEL: The latest news from our girl about town

Angel feels she is probably too old for a particular fashion store in Spalding that appeals to teens, but always takes a glance into the window to see the latest fashions. She has been bemused by the coat currently in the window. It’s sleeveless. In Angel’s life if it’s cold enough for a coat, then the whole deal is required – sleeves and all. However, Angel is looking forward to seeing the trendy young things sporting this look one of these not-too-hot/not-too-cold days just around the corner.

* What entertainment the roadworks at the corner of Herring Lane and Double Street in Spalding provided on Sunday – and that was for the workmen themselves! Trying to count them was a bit like trying to count ducklings, as there appeared to be 12 at one time and 16 at another, though it could have been the same 12 moving fast. Angel watched in wonder as they stood around, chatting, looking for fish in the river and watching work in progress – usually just one man labouring or operating a machine, until, post lunch break, there was a flurry of activity with more high vis jackets involved in work than in leaning and lounging. Work is fascinating – I could watch it all day, as the saying goes.

* Angel’s boss nearly put in a £10,000 expenses claim this week... all because of a typing error. Trying to claim mileage for a trip from Spalding to Boston, he left the ‘S’ out when calculating the distance and was rather baffled when the computer showed he had travelled 10,169.8 miles... from Palding Jaya, Indonesia! Would have been a nice pay-out though.

* Towards the end of a lovely day on Brancaster beach in Norfolk on Sunday, Angel was impressed to see the coastguard warning those in the sea of an impending storm... and even more impressed when the storm hit just as she reached the safety of her car.
