Firefighters are challenging people who are looking to kick-start their fitness regime this year to test themselves through five exercise-themed tasks. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has launched its free ‘fitness taster’ campaign for residents at their local retained fire stations. The service hopes the sessions will encourage people to find out more about helping their community by training to become an on-call firefighter. Madeline Martin, recruitment officer for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “At this time of year many people are looking to be healthier, get fitter or for a fresh challenge. You could actually achieve all of these things by joining your local fire station – and a whole lot more too. “As an on-call firefighter you are paid for your time and receive full training. “This month we would like people to give the physical side of the role a go by seeing if they could carry a casualty, roll out a hose, and find their way wearing breathing apparatus.” If you would like to have a go, come along wearing suitable clothing and footwear. Crews will be on hand to talk about what they do, and how they make it work with other commitments. Locally, the events take place at Crowland on Saturdays, January 24 and 31 (both 10am-2pm), Kirton on January 31 (9am to noon)and Billingborough on Sunday, February 1 (10.30am-2.30pm).
