Lincolnshire Trading Standards are warning people not to buy puppies from illegal breeders as they may be in poor health.
A national campaign national by the Consumer Empowerment Alliance, part of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, called “Buy Rex from a reputable breeder - Don’t fund the illegal dealer”, has the support of the county’s trading body.
Angela Kane, senior trading standards officer said, “If you are thinking of buying a puppy, make sure it is from a reliable and reputable breeder, preferably Kennel Club-assured.
“Puppies from illegal puppy farms and importers are often in poor health and can go on to develop serious illnesses, meaning heartbreak for your family.
“If you suspect the breeder is an illegal puppy farmer, report it to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 040506.”
