There is always a place in the high street for good-value food and the Holbeach Bistro, High Street, Holbeach, aims to fill it.
Manager Patricia Reynolds and colleague Sylvia Welch have been attracting a growing army of loyal customers with its popular cooked breakfasts, lunches and snacks.
The Holbeach Bistro is just the sort of independent business that fits perfectly into our year-long Shop Local, Eat Local, Play Local campaign supporting everything from retailers and restaurants to running and rugby clubs across the four towns in South Holland.
Patricia said: “I’ve runThe Holbeach Bistro for approximately nine months and it’s been pretty up-and-down so far.
“We had some quiet times over the winter but it’s starting to pick up now.
“Our customers can be served drinks, cooked breakfasts and, at lunchtimes, specials from beans on toast through to spaghetti bolognese and roast dinners.
“Everything is home-made and locally-sourced, but myself and Sylvia like to do more specialised meals, as opposed to sticking to the main menu.”
The main menu Patricia refers to includes sausage rolls, pork pies, quiche and seafood, as well as sandwiches such as tuna, sweetcorn and mayonnaise, cheese and pickle, strawberry jam and roast beef and horseradish.
Patricia said: “The most common thing customers ask for is English breakfast and they are really pleased with it.
“We do get lots of customers from Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge who are passing through Holbeach and we have a couple from Bedfordshire who come in whenever they are in the area.
“Trade has been very difficult because of the recession and the winter months were long and cold.
“But the support we have from regulars keeps us going.”
