THERE was no shortage of themes for the annual flower festival at Sutton St James Parish Church last weekend.

Churchwarden Pauline Stebbings, fellow organiser Jane Rose and an army of willing helpers created beautiful displays depicting both the 2012 Olympics and the Jubilee celebrations.

Although the poor weather deterred some visitors, the four-day festival and tombola, plant, cakes and book stall proved as popular as ever, raising more than £1,000 towards the parish subscription.

The Rev Judith Dunckling took inspiration from the Queen’s Coronation for her service on Sunday, using readings and hymns that had been used on that occasion, according to Michael Milchard, whose wife Ann is a member of the parochial church council.
