Union members collected more than 250 signatures in an hour in a bid to save Spalding tax office.
Coralie Cross, Linda Bradley and Tracy Parkinson took to the streets of Spalding during their lunch break on Tuesday.

HM Revenue and Customs is planning to centralise operations by closing eight offices in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

Around 50 staff at the tax office in Holland Road, Spalding, will be asked to relocate. The consultation period ended on Thursday.

Public and Commercial Services union members at the Spalding office canvassed the public and businesses to sign the petition against closure. Around 1,400 people have signed.

More than 10,000 inquiries were made to Spalding tax office by South Holland residents last year.

The union says it provides an important outlet for local businesses and the elderly and is a vital facility for migrant workers.

Union members have already enlisted the help of South Holland and the Deepings MP John Hayes, who collected the full petition yesterday to take to Parliament.
