MI5 files released today show that a visit to Spalding rang alarm bells with the security services.
On August 3 1937 our paper ran a story about the visit of 22 German youths to a Spalding Rotary Club dinner.

The cutting of the story appears in the files, which show that the security services were told about the visit of the Germans - who were in fact from the Hitler Youth.

MI5 was worried that their summer cycling tour was in fact a front for spying.

We will delve into our archives to give you the full story behind the visit in Thursday's Spalding Guardian.
