SCHOOL performers had a Rocky Horror Show of their own when they were forced to pull the plug on a musical a day before opening because of potential legal action.
Spalding Grammar School's A2 theatre studies and music students prepared for ten months for a three-night run of "The Rocky Horror Experience", based on the cult 1975 musical.

But when London licensing company Samuel French Ltd learned from the school website about the sixth formers' plans they emailed students on Wednesday afternoon, threatening the students for a breach of copyright law.

Stands to reason any such show has copyright issues. Unless you pay royalities you are stealing. All thay had to do was contact Samuel French through their website and pay a resonable royality fee. Some people are so silly. Where were the teachers, they are supposed to be educated and worldly ???

Dismayed Dad,

My son was devastated when Rocky Horror was cancelled with just 24 hours to first night. Months of rehearsing at evenings and weekends all for nothing.

So how could this happen? Copyright is everywhere; ignorance is no excuse; come on SGS, don’t whinge or try and shift the blame. This was a monumental blunder. So take it on the chin and accept responsibility. Say sorry: not to me, but to all the cast and crew who worked so hard. And say it loud and publicly. Why not use the local newspaper?! Then make sure it never happens again. And move on.
