There were only two failed exams out of 428 and 65.6 per cent of the grades were either A or Bs (39.9 per cent As)

The 110 candidates also achieved the school's best ever average points score of 407.36, beating its previous best of 401.98 in 2005.

Two students have so far gained places at Oxbridge Universities.

Katherine Barnett gained a history mark to earn a place in the top five in the country.

Tara Johnston and Sarah Clements were also in the top five in food technology.

Headteacher Tim Clark said: "I am very pleased with this excellent set of results.

"The A and B grades were phenomenal. It is a testament to the tremendous hard work that students and staff have put in over the last few years."
