Dance, drama and music studio facilities will be available to the whole of Kirton if plans to expand its secondary school are approved.
Kirton's Middlecott School has applied to build a new side extension and remodel an old gymnasium and changing rooms to create the studios at an estimated cost of around £330,000.

The new development will include a state-of-the-art drama and theatre studio along with a music technology suite and a recording studio.

The school is a specialist sports college and in the last few years completed the construction of a £2 million community sports centre facility on its grounds.

To be granted specialist status schools have to specialise in two subjects. Middlecott's second subject is expressive arts and it aims to give the subject the same attention that has been given to sport in recent years.

Headteacher Matt Percival said: "It will be a community facility open to the public and it's not only about strengthening the reaching and learning in the school but also the links between the school and the wider community.

"It's going to give the students the opportunity to peform and the esteem they get from it."

The school submitted the application to Boston Borough Council and is hoping it will be given the green light to start the work soon.

Mr Percival added: "We do not anticipate there to be any problems with the application and I'm confident it is going to go through so we can get straight to work.

"We are hoping to get the go-ahead so we can get the studio open soon after the autumn term starts."
