Youngsters' wishes for a more challenging skatepark have come true.
Deeping St James Parish Council has extended its skatepark at Woody Heights in Linchfield Road after receiving requests from skaters and a £6,419 grant.

Children and teenagers no longer have just ramps to amuse themselves after contractors installed the new equipment – a grind wall with step-up ledge and three-way fun box.

The project was one of six to receive a share of the £346,716 funding being distributed by South Kesteven District Council.

The council received a £242,858 Big Lottery grant along with a further £103,850 from other bodies including Waste Recycling Environmental Limited, known as WREN, and Lincolnshire County Council.

The new equipment was only installed last week and parish clerk Sheila Kostyrka said it has already been well used by skaters.

She said: "We have got a population in Deeping St James of 8,000 and it is brilliant to be able to continually provide more equipment for youngsters in the village."

The parish council has other plans up its sleeve to add a multi-use games area, featuring a mini-football pitch, cricket pitch and basketball hoops, at the playing field.

Members have submitted a £45,000 grant bid to WREN and are due to learn if that is successful in June.
