A CARING teenager who helped her mum through her fight against breast cancer is in the running for a top prize.
Faced with the news that her mum had been diagnosed with cancer, 15-year-old Laura Cawley helped around the house and never missed a day at school.
Now mum Suzanne (42) has nominated Laura for the chance to win a ride in the £10,000 coach that carri
ed celebrity Jordan to her wedding with Peter Andre.
Suzanne saw the competition in national magazine Pick Me Up and decided to nominate Laura as a thank-you for everything she had done for her while she was ill.
If readers vote for Spalding High School student Laura, she and friends Sarah King and Bryony Sneath will ride in the white and gold pumpkin coach to their year 11 prom on May 12 - and to make it even more special it will be Laura's 16th birthday.
Suzanne said: "In January I got a copy of the magazine and saw the competition.
"I decided to nominate Laura and sent the form in.
"Someone from the magazine later contacted me and asked for more details, telling me Laura had been short-listed for the competition.
"Now she's one of eight finalists and readers have to vote for the winner."
Suzanne was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2004 and had chemotherapy treatment until November.
Then in December she had a mastectomy before undergoing radiotherapy in February and March 2005.
Suzanne, a teaching assistant at Spalding Parish Church of England Day School, was off work from July until Easter and during that time her family rallied round
She said: "When my husband Mick told the girls I had cancer they were devastated. No-one in our family had had it. It came out of the blue.
"During my treatment my other daughter Zoe, who's 18, passed her driving test and has been ferrying me around. I have to make lots of journeys to hospital at Lincoln."
"I'm lucky to have so many good friends and family supporting me.
"It's the little things, like doing the ironing or the vacuuming. You sit there feeling poorly thinking about who's going to do it all but the girls were great, especially when they had been at school all day."
  • To vote for Laura call 09012 290194 or text LAURA to 86611 (calls cost 25p per call. Texts cost 25p per text plus network charges).
    Lines close on March 30.
