A mother who was killed after her car plunged into a water-filled dyke has been described by her best friend as a popular person who would outshine others.
Floral tributes have been left at the site where Jenny McClaughlan died after her grey Peugeot 406 went into the river by the side of Counter Drain Drove, Tongue End.

Miss McClaughlan's car is believed to have gone into the dyke at 4am on Saturday but her car was not found until five hours later by a passing motorist.

The 28-year-old, of Harvey Close, Bourne, was due to move to Oakham today with her nine-year-old son Jack and partner Bill Manhire after starting a new job.

Her close friend Natasha Duff (31), of Torkington Street, Stamford, has paid tribute to Miss McClaughlan.

Natasha said: "She was just a fantastic girl and she always had the ability to outshine others. She was just so popular with people."

Miss McClaughlan was well-known in Bourne, Market Deeping and Stamford, where she liked to socialise.

Miss McClaughlan was brought up near London but had lived in Stamford and Herfordshire and worked at Warners in Bourne.

Her former employer Andy York, customer services manager, has also paid tribute to Miss McClaughlan, who left the company a few years ago.

He said: "For the time she was here, she was a very lively person.

"She was very happy-go-lucky and seemed to live life to the full."

Another friend, Gavin Hugginson, described Miss McClaughlan as a vibrant woman who will be missed by a lot of people.

Six bouquets have been left on the bank and one tribute reads: "Jen, you're going to be missed by so many. Always in our thoughts, Ollie and Amy."

Police have launched an investigation into the crash and are trying to establish what Miss McClaughlan's movements were on the night.

Details of the funeral service have yet to be finalised but it is hoped it will be held at Easthampstead Park Crematorium, Bracknell, Berkshire, near where Jennifer was brought up, on Thursday, October 25, at 11.15am.

l Anyone with information on the collision is asked to contact the Collision Witness Hotline on 01522 558855.

Madlyn,

Such sad news. There are too many deaths in rivers and drains in Lincolnshire. Something needs to be done such as reflective bollards on the length of the roads that run alongside water. It doesn't matter what it costs if it saves lives.
