Plans for state-of-the-art accommodation for up to 300 migrants.
UP to 300 migrant workers could be offered state-of-the-art accommodation in a £3 million development near Spalding.
Plans have been submitted to create five accommodation blocks, each housing 29 en-suite double rooms, two supervisors' flats, three lounges/diners and laundry facilities on land off Wardentree Lane, Pinchbeck.
The scheme also includes a two-storey recreation building with a ground floor gym and a television room and lounge.
Ray Turner Labour Ltd submitted the application to South Holland District Council last week and if the plans are approved the firm will move its 150 migrant workers to the development, many of whom live at a caravan site in Deeping St Nicholas.
The remaining 150 places will be offered to other workers in the area.
Managing director Jonathon Turner said: "The housing situation in Spalding is rather crammed and there are lots of houses of multiple occupation.
"The area has been calling out for facilities like this for the past two years. A lot has been written about the shortage of housing and hopefully this will address that.
"A lot of migrant workers do not have cars and this site will be close to where a lot of them work. There is a bus stop just round the corner and the supermarket is across the way.
"There will be recreational facilities on the site but we will try and keep them to a minimum, as we want these people to integrate with Spalding."
The site will have a barrier entrance with a two storey administration building which will be staffed around the clock providing on site translation facilities and CCTV monitoring.
But one resident living near the site has already raised concerns against the plans.
He said: "I think it's just profiteering and it looks like an open prison.
"It's not sustainable. There are a lot of migrant workers here now but what will it be like in two years?
"They will have moved out – some to find their own places or some going back home and what will happen to the place then?"
