£5,000 funding pots for councillors agreed

EACH South Holland district councillor will have £5,000 to spend in their ward each year, after new budgets were approved.

The ward member budgets can be spent however each member chooses – and every spend they make will have to be published on the council website for the public to keep track of.

The cash was earmarked in the budget and will in fact be £4,000 for this financial year “pro rata”.

Members of the council’s cabinet were in favour of the scheme at their meeting on Tuesday night – but vowed to make application forms less bureaucratic.

South Holland District Council deputy leader Nick Worth said: “Councillors are at the heart of their communities and can direct this money toward the grassroots level to exactly where it is needed.

“This is an open and transparent process and councillors are accountable for all the money spent.”
