UP to 40 people could lose their jobs if a Swineshead company closes the transport arm of its business.
The transport side of Geoff Gilbert International could cease trading within weeks.

A company statement said: “Geoff Gilbert International is to consider ceasing its transport company in the next few weeks following almost 40 years of successful trading within Europe and UK.

“Over the years, the business has diversified into the property business and will now concentrate its efforts in this direction.

“The company presently operates 28 trucks and employs 40 staff. However, due to increasing competition from European based operators, tough legislation and increasing fuel prices, the decision will be taken shortly on the future of the company.”

“The company would like to thank all staff and employees for their support and loyalty over the years.”

Geoff Gilbert International is consulting employees over collective redundancy.

No-one from the company was available for further comment.
