THREE good causes have been handed a slice of more than £35,000 from the proceeds of a midsummer ball.

A total of 500 guests danced the night away at the Moulin Rouge-themed evening in June in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Action Medical Research and the Spalding Special Schools Federation.

The staggering sum collected from the night included proceeds from the tickets, a silent auction and a gift tree.

Local businesses also chipped in with prizes and sponsorship.

Tanya Beresford, chairman of the midsummer ball committee, described it as “amazing” to hand over the charity cheques.

She said: “We work all year on the ball and we are already working on next year’s event. We always say we have two aims; the first is to make sure everyone attending has a good night.

“The second is that we raise money for our charities. As long as we keep doing that we’re on track.”
