For decades now we have loved our sleek, fitted kitchens, but that may be about to change!

One kitchen designer has predicted a complete turnaround in our ideas when it comes to the perfect kitchen.

Apparently we no longer long for uniform ranks of cupboards to hide away the less appealing aspect of kitchen life – the normal clutter of the food preparation area.

What some of us are thinking about for 2015 is a whole new approach to kitchen design – or possibly a return to something that our predecessors were familiar with.

It has been predicted that glossy ranks of identical cabinets are on the way out and that what’s now in is a more ‘furniture-style’ approach.

So we might be looking at having individual one-off pieces or one big statement piece, such as a beautifully worked wooden storage cupboard or kitchen island.

Open shelving is going to be big again, and let’s face it that does make it a lot easier to reach for an implement with hands covered in flour!

The good news for those on a budget is that vintage furniture fits this look perfectly, given a fabulous coat of paint in a contemporary colour and texture.

So what are you waiting for? Starting assembling that new-look kitchen now.
