Spalding Royal Naval Association associate member Brian Payne has received an award.

S/M Brian Payne was presented with the Royal Naval Association Certificate of Appreciation.

According to Terry Day, secretary of Spalding Royal Naval Association (RNA), that is the highest award the organisation can bestow on an associate member.

The award was made for Brian being an RNA standard bearer, acting as Spalding branch standard bearer for ten years, and Number 9 Area standard bearer since 2009.

Brian has represented the RNA, the branch and area in all parts of the country and abroad.

It was presented by John Hayes MP at the Spalding RNA branch Trafalgar Night Dinner for members and friends.

The annual dinner is in memory of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar and this year is the 211th anniversary of the battle.

Held at Whaplode Manor, invited guests were John Hayes and his wife Susan Hayes. South Holland District Council vice-chairman Coun Rodney Grocock, who is also a Spalding RNA member, and his wife Christine were also present.

Following a three-course meal Coun Grocock gave his toast to Admiral Lord Nelson, and gave an insight into the Battle of Trafalgar.
