Sutton Bridge couple Paul and Toni West have some very good friends indeed.

And the couple, of Queen Street, have earned the affection and appreciation of many because of their kindness.

“Paul’s main passion is the world of classic cars and usually he uses these to raise money for charity,” said good friend Donna Musgrove.

In fact, Donna tells us their “wonderful friend and local fundraising hero” Paul and his wife Toni have embarked on another fundraising venture.

Having spent months trawling the Internet for retro disco equipment, Paul has set up his own disco, Mental as Anything.

Donna says: “He wants to set up a proper old-fashioned disco with vinyl records to raise money for various local charities.”

His first gig was a retro disco and buffet with a live act at the suitably decorated Sutton Bridge Constitutional Club in aid of the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.

Donna believes the event, including buying the equipment, cost Paul and Toni in excess of £1,800.

However she says they are “over the moon” with the £454.20 raised, with around 120 people giving donations rather than buying entry tickets.

Donna said there were some outrageous fancy dress outfits, including Paul as Roy Wood from Wizzard, Austin Powers (Donna’s husband Mark), Mr T, to name a few.

She said: “We wanted to do this for Paul on behalf of all his friends to express our massive thanks and appreciation for everything he does for everyone. He will give his time to make people happy. He is the man who drives around the area on Christmas Eve in his classic red and white Vanguard car dressed as Father Christmas and Toni as Mrs Christmas giving out sweets and presents.”
